President Obama has become the first US President ever to openly say he is in favour of marriage equality for both straight and gay citizens. He said he originally thought civil partnerships would be enough to make everyone happy, but changed his mind when he was repeatedly seeing gay friends and colleagues who were in “incredible committed monogamous relationships” and who were desperate to get married. No matter how behind-the-times much of America may be on this issue, it’s great news to see that progress is being made among those in power. Bring on the wedding season!
