Streets In The Sky, the brand new album by The Enemy has floated onto the scene like a minty breath of fresh, cool air.
The album has taken shape around the first track on the album Gimme a Sign, and by the lads very own admission this track was written in only three minutes. They barely had time to put down there plectrums before realising that the sound on this track was where the whole third album was heading.
On hearing this opening tune were dutifully reminded that fun and free lyrics can and are taken seriously when crafted around a skillful melody.
The Enemy have certainly achieved a new kind of personal best with their new found chord to minute ratio during this opening song, they rack up at least four in three minutes.
Of want to remind people that their overtly political second album Music for The People is not ‘who they are’, they have achieved a fun but brilliant third album that reminds us of both their laddish and ‘good time’ qualities.
Lead singer Tom Clarke was recently quoted saying that the charts are ‘full of shit’.
The band have been away for a while so must have expected to come back into a completely different market place. Anticipating the radically changing tides of the current music industry is almost an impossible task and although the band aren’t creating music to gain acclaim within the charts they entered at number 9.
