Designer Drugs

Other | Wednesday 18th April 2012 | Osh

Commonly, a “designer drug” (also known as a “club drug” or “party drug”,) is a synthetic drug, meaning it’s made up of chemical derivatives from already existing drugs, in order to avoid certain legal restrictions. Some of the most common of these drugs include MDMA, GBL and GHB.

However, in the context of this article, Designer Drugs is a trash electronic band from NY, composed of two guys, namely Michael Vincent Patrick and Theodore Paul Nelson (if we’re being formal about it).

Since 2005, they’ve succeeded in creating a new kind of electro, one which is trashy and not always easy to listen to, keeping the very dark side close and punk culture even closer.

Designer Drugs may have succeeded thanks in part to the underground scene of Brooklyn, (where they started) and to the hipster scene adopting their music, using it to remix dance and hip-hop tracks (eg. NASA, Flo Rida, Mariah Carey and others).

Their brand isn’t confined to music, however. They’ve also created very cool cheap tees and tank tops (online shop) and recently created their own label, fittingly named SEX CULT RECORDS, which promotes small underground music artists.
