Guti
We caught up with the amazing music meastro known for fusing electronic music with his jazz and latin roots, to find out what he’s up to and his future plans.

How are you doing?
Doing great.

What has been happening with you this year? I mean you had your album out on Loco Dices label, Desolat.
Super crazy, I’ve played all around the world and my mum is happy. I sent her pictures when I was in Australia, No it was cool to get different people to listen to my music.

Just going back in your history, you’re classically trained.
That sounds boring.

No it doesn’t sound boring, why does it sound boring? I mean if you listen to your music you can hear your skills...
I wouldn’t say I’m classically trained, I played for 25 years, I like the piano but I’m not.

It’s been a world wind ride, you did a track with Damien Schwartz and that went on to the Lab Compilation mixed by Loco Dice, after that you sent more music to Dice, he signed you up and then within two years you came out with a double album. Because you grew up listening to music and you understand grooves and music in general, it’s enabled you to write music fast.
I’m getting there.

This guy is modest.
No, no. I’m a musician right, so for me electronic music and music are two different things.

Yeah they are.
I think I would be a really super interesting artist in five years.

Five years, okay I want to check your stuff out in five years.
I think I would be because I’m growing you know.  I’m really getting into it, I’m really happy with the music now. Yeah, I need to sit tight.

So have you got any secrets you can tell us about Guti? I mean you’ll be doing a live set shortly, so anything forthcoming you want to tell us about? You just had an album out so you’re not going to put another one out. Whats happening in the next 6 months.
Now what is really exciting is I’m working with the old school guy Satoshi Tomiie .

Wow! Okay, you might as well work with Robert Owens then.
He’s amazing, the music is amazing. I also did some remixes for Carl Cox. For me it’s interesting, I see things totally differently, I’m a musician.

You’re here for the music first and foremost. So it’s an honour for both of you guys to be working together?
Satoshi is unbelievable.

Carl Cox is cool as well.
Carl Cox is super, he called me and he’s like “I want you to remix some of my album.”

What the album?
I remixed two songs off the album, that’s coming out shortly in two weeks.

Okay cool.
It’s interesting how in the same year, it’s not techno, it’s not house.

Music is now morphed into one big thing.  Whereas before it used to be techno and deep house was over here and that was over there.
Now it’s just music. You can go a bit techno or a bit of house, I like that.

So what will you be doing for the rest of this year?
Touring and going home in two weeks to play at Creamfields Festival, I go Columbia and Peru and im playing with David Guetta Wooo! (Sings:) I got a feeling... (laughs)

You guys going to make some pop music?
I think I play before Guetta in Columbia.  sings Gonna be a good night... It’s a good song. (Laughs)

Are you going to remix that? (Laughs)
No. If I do my thing they’ll hate me.

No, they’ll love you.
Yeah it will be fine, it’s Columbia.

If you were stranded on a desert island and you had to take three famous people, who would you take?
I would take Guy Gerber because he’s fun every time and smart, he can get you in a deep conversation in a second. Now two hot girls, Beyonce, I like her and maybe Scarlett Johansson.

Yeah, that’s the best of both worlds.
