Pioneering rave duo Orbital have announced that they are to split after 25 years of performing together. A press statement issued yesterday by the band stated: “After 25 years at the forefront of electronic music - from house to rave to festival mega-techno, to international dance stardom to the 2012 London Paralympics Opening Ceremony - Orbital brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll announce that they’re hanging up their iconic torch-glasses and parting ways for the final time”.
Ground breaking live shows, acid house anthems and iconic torch glasses were the band's calling cards. Formed in 1989, the band split once before in 2004 but reunited in 2009 for a series of shows before releasing the critically well received Wonky album in 2012.
