Deptford Goth gets up close in his new video

Indie | Thursday 16th October 2014 | Ollie

Hailing from South London, Deptford Goth (real name Daniel Woolhouse) draws James Blake comparisons for musical as well as geographical reasons. His 2013 album 'Life After Defo' was highly praised for its introspective, dark and spectral RnB style, all gloomy synthesisers and lyrics dripping in uncertainty.

His latest offering, 'Two Hearts', the second single of his forthcoming album 'Songs', is similarly emotional, but rather more melodic. Ethereal vocals and echoing piano chords convey the tenderness of love: 'we've got peace in us' he murmurs. The video also suggests a closeness, which while omnipresent in his earlier work, was more shrouded in mystery. Here he stands on a windswept coastline, filmed early in the morning to 'catch the stillness of that time of day', letting the camera get as close into his face as his lyrics do to his heart. The combination is really rather beautiful.

Songs is out 3rd November.

You can still buy tickets for Deptford Goth live at Heaven on 26th February 2015.
