John Digweed & Nick Muir collaborate with untraceable Author to release a CD/Novel hybrid album. What?

House | Thursday 9th October 2014 | Bobby

In this contemporary age we call the modern world, left field musical collaborations are nothing new, littering our ears with fresh sounds and concepts every day. Mostly, these mash ups are confined within the boundaries we know as modern music, sticking somewhat to a formula that works. With this over-reliance on the solid formula in mind, legendary dance duo, John Digweed & Nick Muir offer us something a little different with a concept that spans far beyond the ideas of the usual dance collaboration, crossing boundaries to thrust a new breed of thinking upon our ears.

Having teamed up with pseudonym veiled novelist  John Twelve Hawksauthor of the New York Times 2005 bestseller 'The Traveler' the two have stirred massive ripples in the vast, musically collaborated pond. Taking Hawk's concept of an all-controlling, big brother styled secret organisation and relaying it to our ears, the two find a relation present to ideas common throughout London's sprawling streets - making Digweed & Muir's take on The Traveler an already opaque piece of work through idea alone.

Catch a piece of the action here with a preview of the albums sole single '3B3' before copping the entire thing for yourself.

The album comes to fruition from a series of fanfare emails between Digweed and John Twelve Hawks, in which Hawks expressed his love for Digweed's transition mix series. A mix series he listened to whilst writing his dystopian-set trilogy, making this high concept, in from the left collaboration so intriguing. An eventual meeting was organised and took place, in which the ever secretive Hawks turned up, recorded excerpts from his novel and then disappeared, never to get in contact with the two producers again… and leaving us with the prospect of one of 2014's most intriguing pieces of work.

Released Monday (the 6th!) on Bedrock Records, The Traveler is already available to buy here! There is also a limited offer including above single, 3B3 on 12" Picture Disc, thrown in for good measure here!
