Five Reasons To Visit Zagreb

Other | Thursday 14th November 2013 | Gemma

#1 Nightlife

Zagreb is THE city in Croatia to go clubbing and that’s because there is something for everyone. If you’re more into a relaxed evening try out the lounge bars on Tkalčićeva, for rock fans try Route 66 and there’s plenty more for the hard core clubbers, top tips are Gallery and Aquarius.

#2 Food

The food is Zagreb really falls into three categories; continental, alpine and mediterranean. It also has some of the finest freshwater fish in all of Europe such as Carp, Trout and Pike. Croatian fish is known globally as being of the highest quality and, it is a well known fact that the Tuna is of such quality that the Japanese have been known to source it for use in some of the world's best Sushi restaurants.

#3 Culture

Zagreb is rich in culture and full of various museums and art galleries to fill your days. As with many Central and Eastern European cities, Zagreb is divided between the Old and New towns. Fortunately, the Old town of Zagreb is of such size that you will be able to explore the whole thing without having to give away an unnecessary expenditure on travel and can enjoy it at your own pace. The museums are some of the finest in the world and we would highly recommend the Museum of Zagreb as well as the Museum of Broken Relationships which both show an incredible insight into the history of the city.

#4 Festivals

From flowers to documentary feature films, there’s no shortage of attractions in the city for artier types. The world festival of animated film, Animiafest, and Music Benniale, an avant-garde exhibition, take place on alternate years, while pop central Zagrebfest happens annually as the oldest contender. There’s also sport tournaments for the more outdoorsy.

#5 Sky Diving

Ranking as Trip Advisor's #1 attraction in Zagreb, Sky Diving is one of the most exhilirating things that you can do when you're in, or above, the city. To descend from a plane and to be able to view Ban Jelacic Square, the Croatian National Theatre and Maksimir Park and few will forget it in a hurry.
