Beat the bidders for On the Beat Records on eBay

Do you see yourself as the next John Cusack? Yeah me neither. Then again, his role in High Fidelity where he finds himself as a self-confessed music geek and running his own music store, hell yeah. You could imagine great life sifting through vinyls and memorabilia and immersing yourself in a real passion for music.

An unlikely eBay listing - On the Beat Records could be yours for the listed price of £300,000 (or the highest bidder). It was opened in 1979 by Tim Derbyshire and is tucked away near Tottenham Court Road. Country, folk, jazz, 90s pop, old funk and soul...take your pick from their vast collection of music. As the eBay listing says - you could actually live the High Fidelity lifestyle.

"The Beat must go on. Keep my dream alive!" the listing is persuasive and quirky, a treasure for vinyls and musical history. There's just 19 days left of bidding and as it stands (and the numbers are going up as I write) the shop has 724 watchers and 7 offers.

The owner suggests the purchase will be more of a labour of love than a real lucrative investment. I don't know about you, but with a passion for music and a working LP player sitting at home, I wish I could afford the dive into an eccentric gem of a purchase.

“Sentimental music has this great way of taking you back somewhere at the same time that it takes you forward, so you feel nostalgic and hopeful all at the same time.” Nick Hornby (High Fidelity)
