Junction 2 festival is a keeper
When we rocked up to Junction 2 we were expecting a lot of noise, a decent music policy and a mixed crowd. We got that, and a hell of a lot of vibe to boot. We could have anticipated the heavy-duty skillset of a headliner DJ like Adam Beyer, but not the power or grit of thousands of people jumping at the same time to a massive drop under the M4. This is really one to return to, and can only improve as the crowd refines itself, weeding out the tourists and creating a community formed of honest-to-God music lovers.
The Closer stage was enjoyable during the day, sheltering fragile minds and bodies from the light of day and plunging ravers back into their comfort zone – total, sweaty darkness. Dense & Pika’s hard, danceable, analogue sound was received particularly well next to the more chin-strokey techno which left some of the less seasoned crowd a little cold.
Dixon, headlining the Hydra stage, dropped absolute bangers hot off the press, which ignited loyal fans. It was a refreshing blast of underground techno, ready to compete with festival owner Beyer’s gargantuan headline act on the largest and most iconic stage, Drumcode. And surely a tough act to compete with it is, set on a giant outdoor stage, the crowd crammed in between trees, spreading up under the flyover so that the view of the stage from far away is a sight to behold. Atmospheric doesn’t begin to cut it.
Only in its first year, Junction 2 is looking like a keeper. The 2017 date, the sophomore event, has been announced as Saturday 10 June, 12-10.30. The day festival takes place in West London's Boston Manor Park.
