Palma Violets @ The 100 Club

The 100 Club on Oxford Street is a venue steeped in so much history, so when you’re watching a band play here, you feel like you are a part of something, which instantly means the gig has a positive, excitable atmosphere about it. Which is probably why Converse Gigs decided to choose this venue to host their events.
Palma Violets entered the stage to huge cheers from the crowd, because it is such an intimate venue, everybody was involved. Sometimes when you go to gigs at bigger venues, it’s only everyone who’s in the middle and at the front who are involved, however it wasn’t the same here. Everyone was cheering and joining in.
The first song to be played was ‘Johnny Bagga Donuts’. After this was played, it seemed that the band were already drenched in sweat, we could tell this was going to be one energetic set.
The two members of the band on lead vocals, Sam Fryer and Chilli Jessons, have a lot of on stage chemistry. With both mics pointed at one another, they have so much fun doing what they do, and doing it with each other.
During the gig the band played a cover, ‘Invasion of the Tribbles’, by The Hot Nasties. This went down well, as most of the crowd seemed to recognise the track. When the set finished, the entire stage was invaded by the crowd, you could not see the members of the band anywhere. One of the advantages of playing at a smaller venue, you can trust the crowd for a stage invasion, because there aren’t so many of them!
The whole performance was faultless, sounding just as they do on their album 180. It may be an album of style over substance, but boy, do these guys deliver when they perform.
Catch one of their intimate shows now, before they become so huge, they start playing bigger places.
