Arctic Monkeys Set To Release New Album Influenced By The Sounds Of “Dr Dre”

Arctic Monkeys Cite Dr Dre As An Influence On New Album AM

Arctic Monkeys are one of the last few remaining formidable forces in the world of rock music, with the phrase itself feeling antiquated as I write it. The band who rose to prominence in 2006 had the fastest  selling debut album in British music history at that time, in the form of Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not.

Since then the band have gone on to release another three full length LP’s. This is an achievement in itself, with the consistent work rate of the Sheffield band more like that of a rapper than any other contemporary ensemble.

With the band set to release a new album in September, entitled AM, speculation as to what can be expected from this new material comes into question.

My prediction is that the album will have little in common with its predecessors, as is the case with all of the bands four releases; their second LP having a rave-esque quality, their third basking in the sonic realm of psychedelia and their 2011 release possessing a 50’s rockabilly vibe.

In keeping with this idea, when NME asked frontman Alex Turner to give an insight in regards to the sound of the new record, he replied: "It sounds like a Dr Dre beat, but we've given it an Ike Turner bowl-cut and sent it galloping across the desert on a Stratocaster."

Poetic as always, if you want a taster of their new sound, check out their new tune below...
