Harry Belafonte wants sit-down with Jay-Z and Beyoncé
Music legend and icon, Harry Belafonte has reached out to Jay-Z and Beyoncé after hearing Jay Z’s track, ‘Nickles and Dimes’ which was partly a response to comments the calypso artist had said last year.
During an interview in 2012, Belafonte stated that celebrities such as Jay-Z and his wife, Beyoncé were examples of artists who had turned their back on social responsibility, something Belafonte felt was imperative for artists such as them to uphold. In a recent interview, Belafonte, aka, ‘Mr Day O’ stated that what he had previously said was not specifically directed at either artist. “I would be hard pressed to tell Mr. Jay-Z what to do with this time and his fortune. All I can be critical is of what he is not doing… I was at a press conference in Switzerland. Questions were raised by the international press. They asked about the artists and the social engagement of the past based on a film we were watching…and how artists responded earlier in my life and how they responded today.”
Belafonte continued to say that “I would hope that Jay-Z would not take personally what was said because it was not said about him personally.” These comments were all in light of the track ‘Nickles and Dimes’ from Jay-Z’s hit album, Magna Carta Holy Grail. The lyrics read “I'm just trying to find common ground / 'fore Mr. Belafonte come and chop a nigga down / Mr. Day O, major fail / Respect these youngins boy, it's my time now / Hublot homie, two door homie / You don't know all the sh*t I do for the homies."
Clearly Jigga didn’t take too well to Belafonte’s comments. However, Mr Day O has asked for a sit down with Hov and his Beau to resolve the issue!
