Grouper announces new album, releases haunting first single 'Parking Lot'

Indie | Wednesday 14th March 2018 | David

The sombre, minimalist music of California singer-songwriter Liz Harris, aka Grouper, strikes a bewitching balance of cryptic and confessional, setting her often incomprehensible vocals to sparse, ambient arrangements with results that are both mysterious and deeply personal.

Harris looks set to continue in this enigmatic vein with Grid of Points, her first solo album since 2014’s critically acclaimed Ruins. “I wrote these songs over a week and a half; they stopped abruptly when I was interrupted by a high fever,” Harris said in a statement last week. “Though brief, it is complete. The intimacy and abbreviation of this music allude to an essence…The space left after matter has departed, a stage after the characters have gone, the hollow of some central column, missing.” So far, so Grouper then.

The album’s first single – the piano-led ‘Parking Lot’ – is already available on SoundCloud. Give it a listen here.

Grid of Points is out 27th April via Kranky Records. Check out the artwork and tracklist below:
