Introducing Sports Team a Cambridge boy band with a difference

Indie | Monday 19th February 2018 | Alice

Having just released their debut EP, Sports Team have arrived with a defining confidence and distinctly British sound.

The young six-piece who first met at Cambridge University have spent the last year writing, touring and recording, to come up with their brand new EP, Winter Nets, released at the end of January. Working with producer Dave McCracken (Ian Brown, Depeche Mode), Sports Team have a confidently driving sound honed around frontman Alex Rice’s dark vocals.

Winter Nets is comprised of five witty, lyrical tracks including an already live-favourite ‘Camel Crew’, and their newest single ‘Beverly Rose’, which has set the band up with some tasty material to be playing around the country.

Having played shows for indie publications So Young and DIY the hype has started to build around their live presence and potential. And being grouped alongside other exciting bands such as Shame, Yowl and Boy Azooga, it’s very easy to see Sports Team as one of the great new indie groups to watch in 2018.

They head out on a short tour in March co-headlined by Pip Blom, including a free night at Hackney’s Moth Club, before hitting the festivals this summer. So our advice is catch this band now before they blow up and hit the big time.

Full tour dates are below:

March 27th – Soup Kitchen, Manchester

28th – Moth Club, London

29th – Heartbreakers, Southampton

30th – The Big Top, Cardiff

31st – The Actress and Bishop, Birmingham
