Fuck off with that political correctness "going mad" bollocks

Other | Friday 28th July 2017 | Grace

I can’t be the only one that is sick of being part of a generation that is patronised, criticised and downright mocked for standing up for what we believe in as well as being called a sensitive ‘snowflake’ for not sticking to tradition?

Therefore, to show that we are better than people will have us believe, I have compiled just a few reasons as to why we should be given more credit as a generation for simply trying to make the world around us a better place.

We accept that political correctness is not a bad thing

Okay, so it’s true that some modern rules that are put in place are just ridiculous (like the fact that in Australia a few years ago a company tried to ban Father Christmas saying ‘ho ho ho’ as a worry it was offensive to women.)

But for anyone that has ever experienced any type of racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia or any type of offence for being the way they are born then they will understand how upsetting and offensive it can be when someone casually throws around derogative terms that people have fought years for to obliterate.

I for one am proud that we are trying our best to no longer make people feel like shit for being who they are and have the confidence to do what they want in life.

It’s okay to sing ‘ooohhh Jeremy Corbyn’ and not feel ashamed

The lizard queen is still unrightfully in power and Jeremy Corbyn is not, why am I still banging on about him? Because he was one of the first popular politicians in generations to really see things from the point of view of someone who wasn’t a middle-class white man (despite him actually being a  middle-class white man)  whose only focus is themselves.

He got young people voting and realising that they can have a good life and deserve the same rights as everyone else, and we should be proud that the young came out in our thousands to vote for someone that we truly believed in.

We work really fucking hard and still can’t afford a house. It’s not our fault

I live in a shit hole. It is tiny and my landlord is dodgy as fuck. This isn’t because I am lazy and don’t work, in fact, there have been times in my life that I have held down three jobs whilst also doing lots of unpaid work experience. This is not a one off and it is the case for most people that I know.

So why are there so many headlines that say things like "Can you get a mortgage as a millennial and still have your avocados?”. Like it’s our fault that we can’t afford a million-pound house because we were idiots who buy 300 avocados a day. Well maybe some of us don’t eat avocados and still can’t afford a place to live.

The real reason we can’t afford a mortgage is because the generation before us was given loans to buy properties even if they couldn’t afford it. The banks got into debt because of this, collapsed and could no longer afford to lend out any money.

This is not our fault and at least we are a generation who has learnt that there are more important things in life than owning a load of bricks. Even if it does mean living in a place where the toilet touches the bed and the curtains have fallen down.

We are a bunch of liberal lefties and this is not a bad thing

We accept people from all walks of life! You fancy people of the same gender? That’s cool! You had to escape a country where you could no longer live? Oh shit, we hope you are okay and can't wait to get to know you and make friends! You are a woman and believe you should get paid the same as a man for doing the same job? Great, so do we!

No matter who a person is, whatever background they are from and where they are in life, we are a generation that is accepting and sees people as equals. This can never be a bad thing and we should be proud we are making the world a more positive place to live in.

I could name a thousand other reasons as to why people need to give us a break simply for being young. But I hope these few reasons will give the encouragement to keep on going and ignore the haters because we are the future... and they should be careful.
