Homeless People To Receive Free IT Training And Laptops

Other | Monday 11th April 2016 | Sabrin

A new scheme set up by Thames Reach is doing all it can to improve the lives of London’s homeless by making use of the 2 million (approx.) working laptops and computers that get thrown out each year in the UK.

Around 6 million British citizens (12% of our adult population) have never used the Internet and so the scheme aims to bridge the gap; starting with the London Borough of Camden, laptops will be recycled and refurbished and handed to homeless people who will also receive IT training in an attempt to make self improvement easier.

Chairman of SocialBox.biz Peter Paduh hopes to run the scheme on a regular basis and said,“Society is becoming ever more dependant on computerised technologies but thousands of people are still without access to this vital resource.”

With the world moving as quickly as it is, digital skills are becoming more and more in demand. Chief Executive of Thames Reach said, “These computers will give people the opportunity to communicate with friends and relatives, develop new interest and improve their skills and employment prospects.”

We hope that the scheme will make an impact in giving homeless people the tools necessary to better their circumstances.
