Lxury is reinventing UK dance music with commercial and critical success. His high-energy sound has the crossover appeal of indie-influenced synths and drums, set against the gritty, urban influence of jungle and grime.
Hailing from South London, Lxury’s beats are primarily garage. They diverge into the realm of downtempo and leftfield, meandering through gentle melodies, and also frequently emerge into joyous pop, validating Andy Smith’s delicate moniker.
However, for all the twinkle and sparkle created by the chiming bells of Lxury’s electronica, there are the hard-hitting claps and rolling drums which keep the records street. At his best, Smith unites both elements, as in 2014’s soaring single J.A.W.S.
