A Headbanger's Ball: Dexters Concert

Shake and rock was the theme of last Friday night’s gig at KOKO in Camden when Dexters rocked the night their outstanding performance.
KOKO in Camden was pumping Friday night, with a DJ who was playing great beats during the anticipation of Dexters’ performance. Dexters is East London’s indie-rock band who has been deeply influenced by their hometown and this shows in the band’s music. With Tom Rowlett on vocals, Chris Heggie and Ben Debo on guitar and BVs, Chris Madron on drums, and Jamie Harris on bass, this band collectively makes indie-rock look even better. Growing up together the band endured challenges and hardships in East London, and this is what has influenced the band to form in 2011, and with this they have created a tone and emotion which is strong and energetic. The band have since performed throughout the UK, supporting acts such as Courteeners, Miles Kane, The Happy Monday’s, The Enemy, The View, and Glasvegas. Building up experience, these boys have earned themselves a large local fan-base, which showed last Friday night.
Last Friday was themed by waiting, with major delays to the band’s performance. After a lot of dancing to the DJ’s set, finally the support band performed, which heightened the atmosphere even more than it was pumping before. Expected to play at 21:30, then 22:00, Dexters failed to show until much later into the twenty-third hour of the day, but with high energy levels the wait was not a strain. Finally the band came on stage and let me just say, the waiting had all been worth it! The vigour that the band brought with them was crazy when they began the crowd grew into a wild roar. The energy was off the charts and everyone in the room was rampant. My plus one and I were standing up-front and centre but the girls were viciously attempting to elbow their way to the front, while the guys were head-banging. The crowd was wildly dancing to the music, and the band kept the tempo high and the music rang beautifully. The band each brought their own talents and used them to the best of their abilities, generating a great sound. Each track played was just better than the last, as the band continued to bring the goods. Vocals were conducted with great power, as Rowlette bellowed out his punk-rock lyrics and the instrumentals followed suit. The Dexters set built up to a full-force rampant conclusion, as their last song watched the crowd go into a frenzy of excitement and danced even more eccentrically than before. It was a great night and this band is certainly one to see in the future, because there is the promise of one brilliant performance.
