East London Hip Hop artist Ayar is back with the long awaited follow up to his 2014 collaborative project with fellow East London emcee and one50 member Rageouz - the critically acclaimed Authentape. After an exciting 18 months, which has seen the Canning Town native garner support from MTV UK, GRM Daily, Bang Radio and the MOBO Awards among other leading tastemakers, Ayar is proud to present his third solo mixtape titled Off The Corner.
Off The Corner, which Ayar describes as “a reflection of my past and present which displays my growth sonically and mentally”, sees the 2014 MOBO Unsung finalist delivering a collection of urgent, poignant and lyrical stories, on what is his best work to date. Inspired by his home surroundings and the rags-to-riches mentality fostered in Ayar's deprived circumstances, Off The Corner is a compelling and introspective snapshot of his transition from ‘the corner’.
Featuring his one50 cohorts Rageouz and Mover as the only guest appearances on the entire 16-track mixtape,Off The Corner places Ayar, the rapper and the man, up front and centre on his most personal and vulnerable level yet, as he lays it bare for the listener, warts and all - from his fears (“Pastry”) and inspirations (“Scripted”), to his setbacks (“Getting Right”), motivation (“Change”) and priorities (“July’s Diary”), to his relationships (“Fell In Love”), and his city (“Eastern Sliding”).
Commenting on the inspiration for his new mixtape, Ayar reveals that, “it began to take shape once I returned from university last year. Having been away for three years, the feeling I had when I moved back to London was quite empowering. The past 12 months made me reflect on what brought me to this point in my career, hence the title ‘Off The Corner’ – the word ‘corner’ describes where I started from and the word ‘off’ represents the growth and transition of the process."
