Alt-electro artist Missio unveils his self-titled debut EP

Austin-based cinematic, alt-electro artist Missio releases his self-titled debut EP as an independent release on 15th May. Missio takes his music seriously, so seriously in fact that in 2013 he moved into an Airstream trailer to escape from the chaos of city life and focus on his craft. It obviously worked because 52 songs came out of the move, as he said, “I became inspired to create songs about my experiences, past and present, giving no thought to oppositions outside of my own mind”.

For his debut EP he’s selected five of those songs that best represent the yearlong story of its creation. The first of these, ‘I Run to You’ was debuted earlier this year, receiving widely positive acclaim. It was featured on influential YouTube channel Mr. Suicide Sheep, and blog Hilly Dilly called the track “an effort that will fit perfectly into times you just want to reflect on life, close your eyes, and float away”. The subtlety of the emotional vocal allows the song to build effortlessly and the result is stirring.

The production across the EP is reminiscent of Sohn - Missio expertly layers percussion elements and patters of synths, adding little flashes of details, like bells on ‘I’ve Lost My Way’ to add texture. He’s not afraid to use his soulful vocals sparingly to the production shine, which allows his songs to build and causes the music to linger with you.

Missio has said that this is the first time he’s been able to write for himself, exactly the way he wanted to. Although he composed the music in relative isolation, he has said that collaborations on the visuals for his music – with Taylor King and Rob Martinez - has breathed more life into the songs alone, “It’s incredible to me that two people from separate walks of life are able to unite by way of an inspiring piece of art”.

On the back of this exciting debut, things are only set to get bigger and better for Missio.
