2013 news from the women in electro and house
Exciting things happening this year for the female icons of the genre
2013 looks set to be a big year for the big female names in house. Of course the obvious one is Maya Jane Coles; playing at several festivals this summer, she is finally planning on releasing her debut album after 2 years of practically iconic status. In an interview with Mixmag she revealed she will also be songwriting and singing on the album, as well as featuring many guests and collaborations. This could be the most exciting release in house music of the year. One of the guests will be Miss Kittin, the French producer who rose to fame in 1998 with her track "Frank Sinatra" and thus paved the way for many females in the electronic genre. She is also releasing a new album this April, Calling From the Stars, with an accompanying European tour – check her out at XOYO for Bugged Out! Presents on the 1st May and an appearance at Lovebox. An inspiration to many, this will not be one to miss. Currently lesser known but also having an eventful year is Laura Jones. Jones became well known for her skills as a DJ, but recently she has released her first solo EP, Sensoramic, which features her own vocals and has been met with widespread critical success. She’ll be playing at this summer’s Eastern Electrics and Lovebox festivasl, as well as Fabric and The Warehouse Project on the 20th and 27th April, with many more dates to come. If you are at Lovebox, it's also worth checking out Heidi, who will be presenting her own stage; she will playing alongside artists such as Bicep and Solomun as part of her succesful Jackathon parties. It’s going to be an exciting year for these high profile female producers.
