An album that's hardly going to be your best friend.
Thrown into the world amidst a swirl of silly hype (from a certain 3-letter magazine) around debut single and supposed ground shaking live shows, Palma Violets were a band bound to disappoint it was just a question of how badly?
That first single acts as the opener and while ‘Best of Friends’ bursts with energy, it’s not breaking any new ground, and that sums up the album as a whole pretty well. The following 10 tracks always have the glossed over style that stops the passion from feeling real and they range from a BOF-lite style or something so structurally all over the place that it never really gets going.
That’s not to say it’s not worth your attention. It’s definitely got its own feel that’s rare on most albums and those organ sounds are an interesting idea. Loads of energy but it’s just another case of style over substance.
