Calling All Glasto-Goers!

Indie | Thursday 28th February 2013 | Becca

Yesterday, Emily Eavis announced on twitter that the Glastonbury line up will be revealed before the ticket re-sale in April.

The initial sale of the tickets back in October last year, sold out in minutes. This sale of tickets gave buyers an opportunity to put down a £50 deposit, then pay of the remaining balance in Springtime this year. The re-sale that is happening in April, is for tickets that have not had the remaining balance paid for. So this is a second opportunity for those to buy tickets, who were not so lucky back in October.

Is this a good idea? Most of the reaction on twitter was negative. It seems people are angry as now people will only be buying tickets for the huge headliners promised, and not for the overall festival experience. Most people seem to think that once that is announced, it will make obtaining a ticket virtually impossible, due the to high demand that will be created.

On the other hand, it could be more of a positive revelation. If you know the line up, then you know if it’s worth going. Buying a ticket for a festival and not knowing the line-up is a massive risk. However if you know the line-up, it makes deciding to buy a ticket a lot less stressfull, therefore less panic-buying is likely to ensue.

At the moment, the strong rumours for headliners are Arctic Monkeys and The Rolling Stones. After winning Best Live Act at the NME Awards this year, The Rolling Stones have expressed that they would love to play Glastonbury, and hope to play the festival in June. When asked, Ronnie Wood said this, "I want to do it badly, but I've no idea yet...I know we're the best live, so I just hope we get it." If I was Michael or Emiily Eavis, and I had The Rolling Stones desperate to play my festival, I know what I'd say to them, wouldn't you?

All I know is, I’m one of the unlucky ones who did not obtain a ticket in October. And I want to know the line-up, so I can either be happy I didn't obtain one, or start to mentally prepare myself for the chance of being unsuccessful again...
