Get psyched for Pond and Tame Impala

Indie | Monday 18th February 2013 | Varala

A little bit of psychedelic pop with a hint of glam rock and a completely spaced out vibe. That’s what Australian group, Pond, sound like. The concept behind the band is to let the creative juices flow to make genre-bending music without overthinking it. And that is exactly what songs like ‘That Is How We Came’ off Pond’s debut album Psychedelic Mango (2009) sound like.

If the white noise from their early days sounds a bit too acid-trippy for your taste, then have a listen to singles like 'You Broke My Cool'. But be warned, even the video makes you feel somewhat delirious.

Quirky sounding Pond is based in their hometown of Perth in Western Australia, but they have already visited the UK for the odd gig or two. If the band’s next release runs smoothly, you might get your chance to space out with the Aussies at a London gig soon.

Meanwhile, Tame Impala, a band that shares two of its members with Pond, is busy with their world tour. Tame Impala creates a familiar nostalgic atmosphere using a Pond-like psychedelic glam. Yet, the groups each have their own distinct sound. But we’re still not sure which band makes us feel more tripped out...

Tame Impala have been hitting everywhere from New York to Mexico to Coachella this year. You can catch them at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on 25th June.
