Dr. Dre is getting tough and suing Yamaha over copying the design of his Beats Electronics. This is for infringing upon the design patents of his line of headphones. In the suit he claims that Yamaha’s PRO series directly copy the design of the Beats by Dre line.
The suit says, “Consumers appreciated the design, as well as the sound quality, of Beats and began wearing the Beats headphones around their necks as a fashion accessory even when not listening to music. In fact, the design of the Beats headphones has been a significant driver of the commercial success of the products.”
In addition, the suit argues that Yamaha’s adverts for the headphones are profiting off the success of Beat Electronics’ headphones and Dre’s standing as a powerhouse in the music industry. The Doc is looking for $75,000 on the basis of Trade Dress Infringement, Unfair Competition and Patent Infringement.
Whoever dares to take on the might of Dr. Dre is sure to feel his full force upon them and that looks to be the case here. We’ll keep you posted on how this develops.
