The best possible instrument for those who like a drink or two

Indie | Tuesday 23rd October 2012 | David

Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon has designed a guitar made from a whiskey barrel.

The “1608” has been built by Gordy Bischoff, and has been made out of the wood from Bushmills Irish Whiskey barrels. The instrument is up for auction on eBay, with all proceeds from its sale going to Eau Claire’s Confluence Project – named for the town in Wisconsin from which Bischoff and Vernon both hail.

The project aims to set up a community arts centre in the town. Vernon has deplored the lack of opportunities for artists in the area, stating that many have had to leave before realising their potential. Through the project, Vernon seeks to put Eau Claire back on the map. With the guitar already valued online at over $5,000, this will really help the cause.

If you want to be in with a chance of owning this unique instrument, you’ve got nine days left to put your bid in. If the lucky winner of the auction doesn’t immediately play ‘Whiskey in the Jar’ upon receipt of the guitar, I think there’s something wrong with them.

Check out the making of the guitar below, and to all guitar and whiskey lover out there… get bidding!
