With Rinse FM’s opening launch night going down as a huge success , the second night of this year’s Warehouse Project series had a lot to live up to. Catering this time for the house and techno side of things, the promoters pulled out all the stops, with the lineup boasting such stellar acts as Nicolas Jaar, Seth Troxler and Four Tet. The brand new cavernous venue was buzzing from early doors with latest big thing Bicep kicking things off in Room 3 with a bang, with their own track ‘$tripper’ and Cyril Hahn’s remix of Destiny’s Child ‘Say My Name’ being the tracks that were particularly well received by the enthusiastic crowd. Next door in Room 2, Joy Orbison and Jackmaster were smashing it with the crowd going so wild that you could feel the walls sweating. This was a trend that continued throughout the night as Scuba brought his pounding, Berghain influenced techno beats to Manchester, which kept the crowd jumping and the ground shaking throughout his 90 minute set. Julio Bashmore was perhaps the only tarnish on the night, given that his set took on a more relaxed, jazzy vibe, that failed to encompass the vibe being promoted by the rest of the other acts playing that room on the night.
Meanwhile, in Room 1, Nicolas Jaar brought his live show to the gigantic space, delivering his classic, entrancing beats that we have all come to know and love in an energetic and visually captivating way. He was followed shortly after by deep house maestro Maceo Plex, who played one of the best deep house sets I have heard in a while, showcasing fresh deep house anthems alongside his own material, including classic track ‘Stop Your Hate’ and his latest remix of Bazar’s ‘Hard To Find’, which both sent the 3,000 strong crowd crazy. However, there was one act who stole the show and we had to wait until the final set of the night to receive the education that everyone duly received from tech house legend Seth Troxler. Dropping tracks including Joris Voorn’s remix of Muldar’s ‘Natural High’, Troxler gave a masterclass in how to mix vinyl, delivering a set with perfect balance and weight that proved to be the perfect way to send everyone off into the cold September night, safe in the knowledge that the night could be looked back on as nothing short of a monumental success.
