Nas brings back Amy Winehouse with the posthumous collaboration ‘Cherry Wine’

Thursday 4th October 2012 | Laura

The video shows Amy projected on a brick wall while Nas flirts with a pretty girl.

Nas and Amy Winehouse were old friends, and in 2008 they got together for recording sessions. Some really good material came out of those meetings, such as the song ‘Like Smoke', which appeared on the singer's posthumous No.1 album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures. And the song ‘Cherry Wine’, which Nas has said that came from "God, and Amy", which could have perfectly fit the album Frank.  Both tracks were produced by Salaam Remi, who worked with Winehouse on all of her albums.

Now, a video for ‘Cherry Wine’, included in Nas' tenth studio album Life Is Good, has been directed by Jay Martin, but obviously without Winehouse, who appears on the clip projected onto a brick wall while the barman (Nas) and a pretty girl, flirt in a vintage bar. The video has created a little controversy around the idea of the tribute vs. making money from someone’s memory an eternally occurring debate. Commenting on this, Nas said that “If what had happened to her happened to me I would have expected the same from my friends.” Nas considers Winehouse a sister, as they share a birthday and have been friends for years.

On 12th November , Winehouse’s posthumous boxset will be released. Called Amy Winehouse At The BBC, the set includes compilations on DVD and a live CD album. It also includes a selection of live performances from Live At Jools Holland, a number of tracks filmed at T In The Park and other festivals, and the documentary Amy Winehouse - The Day She Came To Dingle.
