Pat Sharp definately not in the Fun House anymore

Whatever your thoughts of Pat Sharpe, ill or otherwise, no one can deny the impressive stature of his 90s blond mullet, or the effect he had on a generation as a presenter of Fun House. Therefore, I am sad to bring the news of his sudden and violent demise at the hands of indie band Shinies.
Don’t worry though; he’s not actually dead. However, if you are of a passive aggressive persuasion towards the man, you may enjoy the new video for Shinies’ song ‘Ennui’, which sees the band kidnap, beat and set fire to the ex-DJ.
The video, which we can’t deny is disturbing (anyone who has seen British horror Eden Lake will notice similarities), sees Pat abducted from his home before being forced to dance with a wig of his iconic mullet back where it should be. However, when this falls off during the Fun House revelry, things turned bad for dear Pat when he is then beaten with baseball bats before being doused in lighter fluid and set ablaze.
The video, which accompanies a song about nostalgia for the good ol’ days, was directed by Fabio r Younnis, who believes that the violence of his work is present for a reason. Writing underneath the video on Youtube, he says: “We realise the violence in the video is strong, but it is there to make a statement. Everyone looks at the past with rose-tinted spectacles and we are challenging that.
“When we think about our childhood nostalgically, we think of a time of innocence. In ‘Ennui’ we wanted to take these memories and drag them kicking and screaming into the bleak reality of modern day.
“Pat Sharp was always our first choice to star in the video. We grew up with him on Saturday morning TV; all of us held fond memories of him. With his clean cut image and iconic haircut, he was the perfect candidate to help turn our happy memories into nightmarish reality.”
Pat obviously thought this was a good enough reason to have him meet his end in the video, whereas fans of the 90s icon disagreed, with one comment under the video saying its all “a bit HARSH!” and another calling the Shinies “a bunch of assholes”.
Of course, for every staged murder, there is a silver lining. From all the controversy of the video, one fan had only this to say: “is it me or is pat getting hotter with age?” Well done to you for looking past all the violence and wistful meaning to get to the real heart of the video’s purpose.
