Black Keys announce new album for 2013

Tuesday 2nd October 2012 | Liam

Blues-rock duo the Black Keys announce a new album is ‘definitely gonna happen in 2013’

It hasn’t been that long in coming, but for fans of the minimalist blues act-turned megastars the Black Keys, it comes as no surprise that the band are itching to get back in the studio to record their eighth album.

This news comes before they set out on an arena tour of the UK in December, starting at the Metro in Newcastle and finishing up with two nights at the O2 Arena. A feat they would probably have laughed at before their definitive award-winning album Brothers in 2007 produced by Danger Mouse.

In an interview with CBS local drummer Patrick Carney said the duo were ‘going to start making a new album in January…and tour a little more in the Spring.’ It’s positive news for the pair, helped immeasurably no doubt by the overwhelming success of 2011’s El Camino, the tracks of which are still being played on radio stations everywhere, and ‘Gold on the Ceiling’ featured in that somewhat bizarre advert for Premium Indian lager Cobra. You know the one – it was on a train?

In terms of what to expect from the new album, it wouldn’t take an expert to wager it’ll include some rough-cut drum and guitar-led blues beats, some tasty licks, irresistible grooves and melodies. It’ll veer from alternative to commercial-leaning rock with big choruses in a flash (how else do you end up in an arena doing what they do?) and it’ll no doubt be a pretty big hit in 2013.
