Cupcake ATMs to hit the UK?

An American bakery’s cake dispenser may be satisfying the British sweet tooth into the early hours.
On 6th March 2012, Beverly Hills bakery Sprinkles gave the world something beautiful. On the side of their Los Angeles building appeared a curious pink machine that looks more than a little bit like an ATM. That’s because it is… but with one key and delicious difference: this ATM dispenses cupcakes. It remains continuously restocked and functions 24 hours a day. No, you aren’t dreaming. This is actually a thing that exists.
The premise is simple: using the easy touch screen menu on the machine, you select your cake, insert your card, and in minutes you can be munching on a tasty, icing-topped treat for $3.50. Currently, the machine outside the Sprinkles bakery across the pond puts out about 1,000 cupcakes a day. It works because the bakery itself is pretty much a 24 hour operation, with the last employee out of the building before it closes restocking the 600-capacity machine… and it could well be coming to the UK soon. Sprinkles are said to be considering several locations in the UK, where the cakes are expected to cost somewhere in the region of £3.
Is this just going to be a contributing factor to rising obesity levels? Who cares? I’ll take that risk if, once in a while, I can get a cake from a box on a wall at two in the morning.
