Oxfam’s Dalston store has been transformed into a gig venue for the charity’s launch show.
Graham Coxon will be performing today for the opening of Oxjam, the month long music festival put on by Oxfam for charity. The blur guitarist is looking forward to the gig, having never played in a charity shop before, stating that “It is a small venue so it will be great to be able to give the fans a really intimate and personal show to kick off Oxjam”.
Other notable acts performing at the venue over the next four days include a DJ set tomorrow from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, as well as sets from Hot Chip and Simian Mobile Disco on Thursday. Hot Chip will be hosting their own Oxjam party, and are expected to be inviting friends on stage, as well as making donations to the shop itself. They will also be “recommended by Hot Chip” racks of vinyl for attendees to choose from.
7,000 musicians are estimated to take part in the event this year, with the highly anticipated Oxjam Takeover happening from 20th-22nd October. £350,000 is the figure that organisers are hoping to raise. Tickets are available from www.wegottickets.co./oxjam.
