The Stockwell Festival: It Has a Bit of Everything

Tuesday 18th September 2012 | Osh

Most people see the weekend as a time to relax, forget about work and have some fun. This doesn’t necessarily mean going all out to make the most of it. I find it equally worthwhile to chill out with some buddies at home.

However, if you are looking to do something this weekend and aren’t exactly sure what you’re looking for, why don’t you head over to south-west London for The Stockwell Festival?

The festival, taking place at Larkhall Park, has a line-up that looks set to attract a variety of people. There is even a bouncy castle for any children. For the rest of us there is The Performance Quarter which will see street and break dancers, a swing workshop, MCs, a zumba workshop, and Portuguese and World dance acts perform.

If that doesn’t take your fancy there’s a cabaret tent which will be showing 7 × 30 minute shows of comedy, cabaret and burlesque. I understand burlesque is somewhat of an acquired taste so if this isn’t quite what you’re looking for, perhaps you’d like to observe some interactive art or do some early Christmas shopping in the vintage stalls and Lambeth Market.

If all this goes over your head, there is always The Cavendish Arms pop up pub which the Festival is curated by, which I’m sure will welcome punters. Adding to this is a range of food from Portuguese to Ethiopian to an Australian and South African barbeque. Why not have a little of each?

Essentially though, what you will experience is a Stockwell feel. The festival aims to promote all that Stockwell has to offer supported by local residents, businesses, charities, organisations, artists and Stockwell enthusiasts.

If you’d like more information about what’s happening at the festival, check out their Facebook page: The Stockwell Festival. This will definitely be top on my list of things to do this weekend.
