Usher and Shakira Have The Voice

Other | Tuesday 18th September 2012 | Osh

It’s official, Usher and Sharika will be replacing judges Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green for the spring 2013 season of The Voice (US).

NBC’s The Voice runs twice a year in the US, so understandably the super star judges need some time off so that they can focus on their own careers. The show’s executive producer, Mark Burnett announced: “Having award-winning artists as coaches means they need to be able to tour.”

Aguilera is set to release her seventh album Lotus in November, she explained it is important for me to take season four off, allowing me to support my music that my fans have been waiting for.” While fellow judge Cee Lo will still be working with NBC, while creating a sitcom about his own life. Even though the two will not be part of the fourth season, they are still part of The Voice family and are expected back for the 2013 autumn season.

Burnett also explained: "Meanwhile, we're incredibly excited to have singular artists like Usher and Shakira joining the fold." The new coaches will no doubt bring their own flare to the program and the rotation of judges should keep the show fresh. Maybe this is something The Voice UK will consider in the future, to prevent their audience from losing interest.

Here’s a clip to remind us why Usher is more than qualified for coach status:
