Fieldview Festival 2012 Review

Indie | Monday 3rd September 2012 | Osh

Fieldview is like some kind of sweet dreamy festival heaven. It’s in Wiltshire, near a town called Chippenham, but it’s still the perfect Londoner’s festival, to the extent that you can even get a bus to and from the festival from London for a measly twenty quid. Speculation is rife that the organisers of Fieldview Festival have created paradise on earth, and before I begin to explore why that might be, let me tell you this: a weekend ticket this year cost £50, it was a bluddy bargainnnn.

Wispy shreds of coloured adorn the pathways, glitter and beads stream around you and people with mild dazed smiles step aside to let you pass as you wander around the festival, it really is blissed out peace in a field. There are two main stages as well as the Village, with a café, a shisha bar, some stalls and the Village stage, where they play folk or read poetry, and the Dome with an eclectic mix of music (I even heard some hip hop here), so there’s a surprising amount of choice for such a small festival. This year’s lineup will no doubt be next year’s breakthroughs if the last few years at Fieldview are anything to go by.

In the mornings and early afternoons I attended workshops, brushing up on my football skills, drawing, and ability to build a solar panel. I ate lovely food and drank lovely drinks. I danced. The whole weekend was structured perfectly around the music, it was clear a lot of thought went into stage times and creating a balance to cater for taste. Kyla la Grange on the Main Stage made the air feel thick and everything feel possible with her powerful songs and her beautiful voice, Willy Moon was some kind of contradiction incarnate looking like a boy and singing like a man, and my very favourite of the whole weekend: Picturebook performed an amazing show with beautiful women playing with fire on podiums by the side.

Fieldview is all the best bits of festivals, in a small bit of space, with a great crowd, and a happy chilled vibe.
