King Charles playing at KOKO London

Indie | Monday 20th August 2012 | Osh

September 27th. His music and appearance are too overwhelming for a record.

He is one of those musicians who just work their magic spell on you. His music comes straight from the heart and that's where it goes while his hair adds to a special aura that will take you breath away. The extent of King Charles' aka Charles Costa's talent is a downfall for many musicians who often lack natural charm and nonchalance. However, it makes this songwriter from West London almost god-like as his poetic and catchy debut Loveblood from earlier this year shows. The songs, a mixture of folk-pop, indie and surf, go deep without piling it on. They show the versatility of this one of a kind artist on guitar, piano and cello without distracting from the pure and beautiful core of his music. Take 'Love Lust': a strikingly beautiful and most witty love song that lacks any unnecessary kitsch. Or 'Lady Percy' which is symbolical of King Charles' courage to experiment with different, sometimes Carribean or tribal sounds.

Formerly of the band Adventure Playground, he has toured with Mumford and Sons, Noah and the Whale and Laura Marling. Now it's just him, his hair tower and loads of love – too charming a package to be caught on a record only. So go check him out when he plays KOKO London 27th September and be spellbound!
