Golden Closing Ceremony

Watching Kate Moss and crew strut through the Olympic Ceremony adorned aptly in gold showcased the best of our thriving fashion industry and, like most of the nation, made me feel very proud to be British. Our fashion industry is world-wide known for it’s creativity, uniqueness and is a force to be reckoned with.
The closing ceremony in general was a mish-mash of British eccentricity and showcased our rich, weird and wonderful cultural heritage. Save, perhaps, for Jessie J standing in for Freddie Mercury (ergh) it was a spectacle. To celebrate the best of British fashion design nine of England’s most successful and iconic supermodels took to the stage. Gold, obviously, was the colour of choice. Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell wore intricately made, stunning Alexander McQueen, Lily Donaldson wore a Vivienne Westwood gown which featured a silhouette not dissimilar to Elizabethan styles that have influenced Westwood’s historical designs so greatly. Georgia May Jagger looked divine in Victoria Beckham, David Gandy wore a sharp Paul Smith suit, Jourdan Dunn wore a leather Jonathan Saunders dress, Stella Tennant a Swarovski mesh Christopher Kane suit and Lily Cole a beautiful Erdem dress.
The rounding up of the best of British fashion, both in terms of models and design, was owed to the persuasiveness of the British Fashion Council, creative director of the closing ceremony, Kim Gavin and Vogue’s Alexandra Shulman and Lucinda Chambers. It was a real testament to our fashion industry for the fact that both mature and renowned designers mixed with new and fresh ones which showed that our industry is still as strong and innovative as ever. There could not have been any other soundtrack other than that of David Bowie’s ‘Fashion’.
