Chart Sales for Olympic Performers Increase

Indie | Thursday 2nd August 2012 | Osh

A dramatic rise in the chart positions of the artists who performed at the Olympic ceremony highlights the brilliance of their performances.

The musical highlight of the ceremony for many including myself was the Arctic Monkeys performance of the Lennon and McCartney penned classic ‘Come Together’ and this has been reflected in the reception of the record throughout the UK.  The Arctic’s cover has now reached the top 20 in the UK chart and looks to stay there.

In a time when chart music is dominated by the likes of talentless, passionless, superficial, bland pop acts with more makeup artists than brain cells, the ability for a band such as the Arctic’s to achieve mainstream success with a cover by possibly the greatest rock and roll band of all time, highlights that there might just be some hope out there for music and the masses that are swayed by the golden locks of a band such as the dreadful One Direction. This may be the reawakening they all needed to rediscover the music and bands that made the British music scene one not to be messed with.

Bombay Bicycle Club and Frank Turner have both received positive reflections in the chart from their performances at the Olympics. Most notably Turners album has seen a considerable leap up the album chart after a brilliant performance from the Winchester born, post-punk, folk performer.

Once again we are forced to confront the brilliant choice of Danny Boyle for the musical acts in the opening ceremony and it appears it is no longer just me who appreciates the abundance of talent as this begins to be reflected within the charts.
