Apple Taking a Bite Back at Competitors, the Saga Continues

Wednesday 1st August 2012 | Osh

With the ongoing battle in the tech world hard to ignore, Apple is fighting to be crowned king of mobile technology. There has been bad blood between Apple and Google android and with the popularity of Android phones rising, Apple has not given up in suing over claims of patent infringement.

Since the release of the iPhone in 2007 and iPad in 2010, we have been blessed with new technology that has made all mobile devices what they are today. They have changed the use of mobile devices and created cool trendy iDevices (iPod, iPad, iPhone). You can’t deny Apple are a talented and innovative bunch, but with this talent comes a rival company. The web search engine giants Google released a competitor phone in 2008 in allegiance with HTC. Google’s operating system Android is an open source and has a number of hardware companies adopting the ever growing operating system.

The growth of Android phones has bitten a huge chunk into Apple and has not made the tech giant a happy bunny. This was clearly expressed in Apple’s super CEO Steve Jobs biography, where he was quoted as saying that Google "ripped off" the iPhone, and he was "willing to go thermonuclear" on the Android operating system. This battle has been ongoing ever since. But is that all about to change? All these patents and lawsuits have made a division between mobile phone users dividing into two categories; cool kids with iPhones and the more technical phone users with Android. The most unavoidable publicised law suit is with Samsung the leading Android phone manufacturer, which has even won phone of the year over the iPhone in 2011.

Apple has accused Samsung of copying their designs and successfully won in 2011 in Germany leading to Samsung stopping selling the Galaxy Tab. The Samsung Galaxy Tab was then redesigned.

The most recent unravels have not been in Apple’s favour. British court has asked Samsung to publicly apologise to Apple for copy infringement, Samsung products do not look like Apples, this was later dropped. There have also been images in the past few days of a familiar looking iPhone 4 design with Sony logo printed on the back dated 2004 all over the internet. The images are part of ongoing court case between the two mobile giant manufacturers. This has clouded the thoughts of many people. Did Apple come up with the design? They are trying hard to fight off any copy cat accusations with prototypes and images of early development of their iDevices.

Some have accused Apple of being afraid of competition (HTC). With a huge wallet Apple can afford to fight these cases, but how would that affect us the consumers who just want a quality phone? Is Apple really scared of competition? Is their hate for Android and its hardware manufacture so deep or is Apple trying to protect their babies, the iDevices? Whatever way this case goes Android and Apple competition may prove good for the consumer as each has to fight be the best resulting in products of high quality.
