Some years ago the Liverpool Hope University launched a degree called The Beatles, Popular Music and Society focused on the significance of the Beatles in the construction of identities, audiences, ethnicities and industries. Now, The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has launched the UK’s first Masters Degree Course in Music Industry Management and Promotion to be run in partnership with Factory Manchester, a Manchester based British independent record label, started in 1978 which featured several prominent musical acts on its roster such as Joy Division and New Order among others.
And one of those most remarkable artists ever is who is behind of this new project. The ex bassist of Joy Division or New Order, Peter Hook, has teamed up with the UCLan this MA. Hook, former owner of the label Hacienda, has announced that the lessons will be focused on giving advices to the students in order to teach the knowledge required in the music industry today and skills to develop music related projects to their full creative and commercial potential.
Alongside Hook, some other seminal figures such as Tony Rigg, former Ministry of Sound Operations Director, Aaron Mellor and the director of Tokyo Industries.
Key aspects of the course include: identifying and monetising viable music projects, the selection and recruitment of talent, managing creative portfolios, business planning as well as devising and executing marketing plans and promotional campaigns.
