Magic Mirrors, The Future Of Fashion?

Thursday 7th June 2012 | Osh

Fashion and technology are not words often associated with each other but the company FashionLab wants to change that.

Imagine knowing what an outfit would look like without the hassle of trying it on? Rather than relying on the unrealistic proportions of mannequins, Fashion Lab has a different solution. The “Magic Mirror” aims to have a personal avatar with your exact body measurements which would show you a virtual image of how new clothes would look on your figure. This is a concept that could revolutionise shopping as we know it. No more buying the wrong size/wrong style when in a rush! In seconds you would have an exact image of what an item of clothing would look like on you.

Although director of FashionLab, Jerome Bergere admits the project is in its early stages, within three to five years this could be a reality in shops and on the high street!

Fashion met technology in a big way at The Future Fashion event at Westfield Shopping Centre in West London. Shoppers were given a preview of what kind of technology could be used by stores in the future.  Customers embraced Tweet mirrors and facebook booths which allowed them to share their purchases online through social networking. Customers also created personal “mood boards” using touch screens.

With the rise of online shopping, could technology be the edge the high street needs to keep people in the stores?
