A musical inspired by the controversial life of late American rapper 2Pac Shakur will be staged in Broadway, NYC, towards the end of this year.
His most symbolic tracks, picked by scriptwriter Todd Krickler, will guide the audience through 2Pac’s music career that tragically ended in 1996. According to the rumours, the play will be named ‘Holler If Ya Hear Me’ after 2Pac's 1993 single and the director Kenny Leon, three-time winner of the prestigious Tony Award, will carry out the ambitious project.
Interviewed by PBS, Leon said: “The idea was always to make a musical inspired by his music and not to do an autobiographical approach to his life.” Auditions for the sought- after role of 2Pac and all the other minor characters will start on 4 March.
