Friday 13th January 2012 | Osh
DJs: Black Sun Empire, Ed Rush, Calyx, Audio, Klute, Ulterior Motive, Presha
Hosts: MC DRS, 2Shy MC, MC System
After years of running a well revered bi-monthly night in their hometown of Utrecht in The Netherlands, D&B producersBlack Sun Empire touch down at Cable to host their night Blackout. Running for over 8 years Blackout is renowned for pushing talent that the Black Sun Empire label feel needs greater exposure as well as booking DJ’s who have inspired them in their musical journey along the way.
Having been producing their own style of Techno-infused D&B for over a decade they have a vast back catalogue across their two labels Black Sun Empire and Obsessions, with their last full-length album ‘Lights and Wires’. The forward thinking nature of Black Sun Empire’s music and labels means that Blackout acts a platform to showcase their new and sometimes unreleased productions which is always a bonus for revellers.
Joining them on the night will be one of the founding fathers of the sound, Ed Rush. Usually side by side with his production partner Optical, he fits right in with the tech-infused D&B that Blackout champion. His imprint Virus Recordings is home to the likes of Audio, Nosia and Matrix, so don’t be surprised to hear some unreleased goodies from the label.
Calyx has been turning heads with his approach to DJing after embarking on 6-deck sets with regular collaborator Teebee (who he’ll be releasing his next studio album with) and with a new album on its way we can only hope that he’ll be giving a few sneak previews of what’s to come from the Momentum Music head honcho on the night.
Having released on labels like Virus, Subtitles and Freak, and with his own residency at Therapy Sessions, Audio is one busy boy these days. When he’s not remixing for the likes of Tech Itch & Jakes and of course Black Sun Empire, he still finds the time to make music as his Dubstep side-project under the name of Pixel Fist - so expect a diverse selection from him on the night.
Fresh from recently celebrating 10 years of his Commercial Suicide label with an impressive compilation, Klute still manages to amaze us with his versatility in both his productions and DJ sets as well as his refined A&R skills. Musicality counts for a lot when Klute is concerned and he’s been known to play more risqué and forward thinking sets as he continues to re-define what dancefloor D&B can sound like.
Rounding off the line-up will be Ulterior Motive and Presha plus MC’s DRS, 2SHY and System so it’s shaping up to be a night of extremely energetic tech-step proportions.
It’s been 8 years in the making but we’re excited to finally have Black Sun Empire bring their night to Cable and we can’t wait to absorb the Blackout sound on our beloved Nova soundsystem.
