Lil wayne: Tha Carter IV leak was a “good thing”
Controversial rapper Lil Wayne has told MTV News he’s glad his hotly anticipated album “Tha Carter IV” leaked days before its scheduled release. Lil Wayne spoke about the album following his electric performance at last week’s VMA’s and told MTV that the leak was a good thing.
"We did real good this time, real good," Wayne said, “It just means people want to hear it.”
"I mean, 'cause there're people's albums that come out that can be leaked and don't leak, so I'm glad mines leaked."
“Tha Carter IV” had its official release on August 28th and is now on pace to sell nearly a million copies according to Billboard and Hits Daily Double repeating the performance of his critically acclaimed “Tha Carter III” in 2008.
The album has already broken the iTunes single week album sales record by selling 300,000 downloads in its first four days, a record previously held by Jay-Z and Kanye West for their joint effort “Watch The Throne” which sold 290,000 downloads on iTunes in its first week.
The news will be sweet music to Lil Wayne who used his fiery track “Its Good” to respond to an apparent diss from Jay-Z in his song “H.A.M”. Jay takes an alleged swipe at Wayne’s mentor Baby with the lyric “really you got baby money…You ain't got my lady’s money,” leaving Wayne to hit back with “I got your baby money/Kidnap your bitch, get that how much you love your lady money.”
When asked about the apparent beef between himself and Jay, Wayne said there wouldn’t be any repercussions following his actions and also added “I know for a fact music is about perception. You can’t do anything but perceive what you hear. I know that for a fact. So I can’t ever be upset about someone’s reaction.”
