This is what happens when the ultimate break-up song meets one of the coolest bands in existence. Only the brave would cover the folk-country legend that is Patsy Cline. Alison Mosshart, first lady of rock and generally one of the most stylish people in the world to ever pick up a guitar met the challenge admirably. The song itself is pretty self explanatory: bastard man leaves devoted woman for some brazen hussy who in turn drives herself crazy questioning what she could of done to rectify the situation. Don’t worry babes, we’ve all been there.
The song encapsulates the utter despair, pain, insanity and torture of losing the person you hold dearest: 'Crazy, for thinking that my love could hold you/ I’m crazy for trying and crazy for crying/ And I’m crazy for loving you’. Excellent listening for when your sobbing into your pillow, chain smoking and pouring vodka down your throat wailing ‘How could he leave me?’. Alternately you can also listen to this song when you’re single, totally over it and feel annoyingly smug.Truly epic, spectacularly sad, this B-side is one of my favourite covers of all time. Take a listen to their live recording on YouTube whilst noting how insanely sick Mosshart’s hair looks.
