Jamie T at Alexandra Palace - Oh, Jamie, How I’ve Missed You

In 2007, a fresh faced, 22-year-old Jamie T took to the stage at Shepherds Bush Empire. I was 15, Panic Prevention had just been released and the only way to drink underage at gigs was to smuggle a hipflask of rum in your shorts. It’s now 2014 and a 28-year-old Jamie T is about to take to the stage at Alexandra Palace. I’ve been waiting for this moment for seven years. The oversized glasses of Strongbow have been purchased (legally this time) the excessive toilet queues have been overcome and there is a sense of excited anticipation in the air. Needless to say, I’m not disappointed: Jamie T still maintains that raw, shambolic energy, the gritty yet catchy lyrics that made him so popular in the first place.
I like to think we’ve both matured somewhat; I no longer wear Uggs and Mr.T has replaced his Adidas hoodies with an Oh So Fresh and Oh So Clean button up shirt. He also mastered crowd control; he knows when to make them throw there hands in the air like they just don’t care to classic tracks like ‘Salvador’ and ‘Shelia,’ yet he’s also got the knack of making us fix up, look sharp, and listen to more melodious, acoustic numbers like 'Emily's Heart' and 'The Prophet'.
We're half an hour into the gig and I'm officially in love with everything from his Adidas kicks to his leather flat cap to his dulcet South London tones. The seven years I’ve waited to see Mister T were not in vain, the memories of Friday night and Alexandra Palace will be safely placed in the happy memory vault and be frequently called upon when the weather is cold, the rain is falling and I’ve stretched my overdraft limit once again.
