Anyone who attended Bestival 2014 will have noted the disco ball present throughout proceedings. Guinness World Records have confirmed that the disco ball is the largest disco ball ever constructed, at 10.33m in diameter. It was raised and supported by wires, beating the previous record which stood at 9.98m in terms of diameter.
The disco ball was made by creative firm Newsubstance, who said they enjoyed the challenge. Speaking to the Guardian, head of the firm, Mungo Denison, said the ball took three months to build.
He said: "It's taken the team three months of blood, sweat and mirror tiles to design and fabricate this gigantic beast - it's been a fantastic journey."
The disco ball ran as a part of the festival’s dessert island disco theme, which saw thousands of enthusiastic festival-goers decked out in themed costumes ranging from 70s style disco diva outfits to exotic fruit costumes. The festival’s lineup saw hip hop legends Outkast grace the main stage on Friday night, Foals headline on Saturday and disco originators Chic headline on Sunday.
