This event was confirmed at very short notice, and it was a surprise to many students when posters advertising Sean Paul coming to Hatfield went up. He had been not mentioned in the club's programme a month in advance like most performers.
The university has a bit of a history of high profile artists failing to show up, and some students were sceptical as to whether the singer would follow up on his committments.
Recently the uni had Chipmunk scheduled to perform, but he cancelled on the day. And this year during fresher’s week students found out just minutes beforehand that Naughty Boy had also cancelled. However, after the news was broken to them that Naughty Boy will not be attending, they were told they'd be reacieving a performance from Pendulum instead. But for many, it just wasn't quite the same.
But true to his word Sean Paul came and performed and what a night it was! He performed all of his old time classics "Temperature", "Gimme the light", "Like Glue", "We be burnin" and he also played us a brand new song from his new album "Full Frequency".
A touch of Jamaica was definitely brought to Hertfordshire; heads bopping and waists winding.
Student Georgia Georgiou said "it was the best night of my life, I was in my element". Its not often you get to say that about a regular Monday night out at your university!
To get a sense of the vibe he created here is a sneak peak of his newest song. Watch the video below.
