Syria's Worst Chemical Attack In Decades, Was An Inside Job!

Wednesday 5th April 2017 | David

The situation in Syria continues to escalate, with a devastating chemical attack occurring on the 4th of April in the town of Khan Shaykhun.

It is currently unclear who is responsible, although most of the evidence indicates that it was the work of the Syrian government, which would be plausible as the town had fallen under the control of opposing Syrian rebels.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has previously condemned the use of chemical weapons and presumably disposed of the country's chemical arsenal in 2013.

But as we've seen in recent years, this is a man who will stop at nothing to eradicate those who oppose him. The Syrian military has accused rebels of carrying out this particular attack, although it seems likely that it was yet another attempt by Assad to the weaken the control of the rebels.

The death toll for the attack currently stands at 72, with hundreds more being seriously injured. At least 11 children were killed, and witnesses have given horrific accounts of people foaming at the mouth. Several emergency aid workers who arrived to treat the victims also collapsed after being exposed to the bombs.

Eyewitnesses have said that warplanes dropped the bombs, which would further indicate that the Syrian government was responsible.

The New York Times reported that shortly after the chemical attack took place, an airstrike was carried out on one of the clinics that was treating the wounded, which seems like an attempt to lessen the number of survivors.

The World Health Organisastion has confirmed that the symptoms displayed by the victims are consistent with exposure to organophosphorus chemicals, and is shipping medicine from their nearby warehouse in Idleb. Whilst they should be commended for their efforts, it's becoming increasingly clear that peace in Syria might be unobtainable.
